"Oils & Shampoos And Hair Loss"

Since my childhood I have been listening that this & this oils and shampoos are best for hair fall. Even in the TV we saw the same kind of advertisements. But we were and are somewhat wrong to this perception, may be because we never think much before picking anything for our hair problems especially in India.

If you search in the market there are a lots of shampoos & oils are available and as per the brands each is the best one for them as well as for their customers. In market like India, there are more than 100 choices in shampoos & oils. Because Indian market is one of the bigger market  for shampoo & oils.  And it would be very easily for customer to grab any kind of shampoo & oil.

Now a days, every 4th person is suffering from some hair & scalp problems like DandruffDiffuse Hair LossMale Pattern Baldness & Hair Loss but its very strange that most of people first rush to the beauty shop to take some shampoo & oil and they never think about the hair expert called Trichologist because its not in our Indian tradition. I personally think its due to the lack of knowledge. Its very simple logic like if any stomach disorder people want to consult Gastrologist, if blood sugar is a concern, Diabetologist will be the choice, if there is any involvement of nerves, Neurologist will be the person so if hair & scalp problems are there then why not Trichologist ???. But unfortunately I never get an answer to this question.

There is no doubt that Oils & Shampoos should not be used, yes definitely it should be used but the motive behind use of them should be very clear. let us understand it first. Shampoo is nothing but an cleansing agent & its only function is to cleanse our scalp and that's why we can also call it scalp cleanser. Oils are nothing but the scalp moisturizer. It prevents the dryness of hair & scalp.

Now, lets see how common misconceptions are there about the oils & shampoos:

  1. Shampooing causing Hair Loss: Hair loss is a clinical condition where we see losing of hairs gradually from front to back not suddenly but over the a period of time due to DHT. This condition is completely influenced by a hormone called male hormone testosterone & also called androgen. People thinks that doing shampoo on regular basis hampering their hairs leading to hair loss but this is not the fact. Its just a myth nothing else. See, the word shampoo is not the correct word as we using for it, its correct word is Cleanser & better way we can say Scalp Cleanser. So, as the name suggests, it cleanses the scalp and that is the main function that it does. So, basically whatever the scalp cleanser you are using, it does the cleansing of the scalp only nothing more than that but make sure you are using the right one with the right ingredients. There are certain ingredients which are not useful for our hairs so before picking any scalp cleanser you should check out the following ingredients:-

Sulfates: Sulfate is nothing but a chemical which is mostly used in detergents. And we know better how detergents are toxic in nature. Sulfates are very harsh on our skin and same on hair & scalp. They are very effective removing the dirt & oils so ultimately it makes our hairs dry & frizzy resulting in hair breakage.

Parabens: Parabens are another chemicals which are widely used in hair care & personal care products. They are xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are those substances which have those composition similar to a hormone but they disturb the function of a hormone resulting risk of cancer to some extend.

Fragrances: Fragrances are also very bad for our hairs & scalp.Generally its used as a preservative in the personal care products.

Triclosan: It is an anti-bacterial agent used as a preservative in the shampoos & conditioners. Its also xenoestrogen nature but not clinically varied. And it is an endocrine disruptor & related to immune system problems, weight loss etc.

2. Oiling is the solution for Hair Loss: After the shampoo the 2nd most reliable thing that people rush for their hair problem is Oil. Oiling is always good for our hairs. Oil only task is to moisturize our hair & scalp but we wrongly choose the oil for the wrong purpose. We should use hair oil on regular basis because it keeps our scalp moisturized & prevents from dandruff too except some conditions. Means in some conditions oil should not be used like scalp psoriasis, oiling should not be done because it causes burning to the scalp. Oil is applied to the scalp & hair to moisturize hairs & scalp. It also help to retain somewhat vitamins & minerals which are lost due to frequent washing with harsh shampoos.

In India there is tradition to apply hair oil since the century & Ayurveda recommends the same because India is that kind of country which follows the tradition most.

You can choose any oil for your hair as each & every oil function is the same as we told you but here you would see huge difference in the market when going to buy a oil especially in India. India a huge market for hair care products like oils & shampoos. And that's why big brands are promoting their hair care products with bigger celebs whether they are using it on their own or not. This is somewhat due to our doctors too. Some doctors prescribe this & that hair oil by saying it will reduce hair fall, it will regrows new hairs etc. But practically its not like that. So, basically any hair oil you can choose for your hair & scalp but some oils have benefits depending upon their ingredients and they are as follows:-

Coconut Oil
It soften the hairs & gives shine also. Virgin coconut oil is mostly used as hair oil. The fatty acid present in coconut oil is lauric acid. Because of its high affinity it easily bonds with protein & enters into the hair shaft. It is one of the best source of protein for damaged hairs. Its very light due to its low molecular weight.

 Sesame Oil

Different experts are advising differently for the application of different hair oil. But here we need to know the basic method that everybody should follow with ease. So, you should do in the following way:-
  1. First you need to wash you hair & scalp with a very mild shampoo so the application of oil would be very ease & it would not do any harm to the scalp.

  4. After proper application you may do some massage to the scalp in the circular pattern with your finger tips.

  2. It reduces the dryness of hair if applied on regular basis.
  3. It helps in exfoliation & preventing the hair fall.
  4. It helps to replace the lipids to the hair as lost due to chemical treatments like coloring etc.
