 Word Meaning:

This unique kind of Spot Baldness gets its name from Greek word “Ophis” which means "wave shape like a Snake" and that is why hair loss in this hair disease is just like a Serpent.

Definition:

Ophiasis is a unique type of hair disease under the category of Spot Baldness characterised by loss of hair in occiput in a shape of wave like a serpent.

Causation:

There is no any specific causal factor for Ophiasis.

But it is believed that its due to some immune system malfunctions like our body attacks our own body cells so there would be an  Auto-Immune reaction and in reference to that hair loss happened in certain areas.
Causes are somewhat similar to Spot Balndess because which is also an Auto-Immune Disease.

Description:

1)           Nape of the neck is mostly affected area for hair loss.

2)           Hair loss in a snake wave like pattern.

3)           Body own hair follicles are attacked in this kind of hair loss so basically related to Auto-Immune Disease.

4)           It can deteriorate further and extend to a year also.

5)           It starts as an oval plaque in mid of occiput with large axis vertically making it a wave shape of serpent.

6)           Young individuals are mostly affected but present in later age also.

Clinical Features:

Clinically not specified for for important symptoms & signs but certain symptoms and signs are present to be mentioned.

1)           Non-scaring patch on nape of the neck.

2)           No any itching or pain in the affected area.

3)           Hair loss in a wave like shape just like a snake.

Diagnosis:

Ophiasis is just diagnosed by physical examination only.

Prognosis:

Prognosis of Ophiasis is very uncertain.

It also leads to Alopecia Totalis or Alopecia Universalis.

 Treatment:

As I always say, there are many modes of treatment in our great country India for any kind of disease.

But mostly people prefer to take treatment from Old School of Medicine(Allopathy)as their first choice of treating any kind of disease and when some percentage of them do not get any benefit or cure for the concerning disease, they do take a move towards the other option available in medical field.
Yes, here we are talking about the world’s 2^nd largest practising medicine called Homoeopathy.

But it does not mean that you should not take Allopathy as first choice of your treatment.
Here I only try to give the people thinking as I observe in my day to day practice.

Homoeopathy has a great scale for treating every kind of diseases for last 200 years.

Allopathy:

Treatment of Ophiasis does not respond quickly that is why hair regrowth is very unpredictable and for a over of period of time.

So, currently there is no any specific treatment for it.

As it is related to immune system so whenever immune system restore hair regrowth automatic done so basically it does not require a specific line of treatment. But any kind of treatment when needed, it needs a long period of time.

You  can also  consider the same line of treatment as we discussed in Spot Baldness.

Homoeopathy:

In this case as per my experience Homoeopathy will be the best for it.As we see in Allopathy there is fixed line of treatment for almost any kind of disease but its not like that in Homoeopathy.
